The geographical differences between the North and the South varied. The northern climate had frozen winters and hot humid summers making farming very difficult. The southern climate had mild winters and long, humid, and hot summers which made farming easier. They made their living by growing indigo, tobacco, corn, and cotton. This how they made their money and a legacy for farming. Having rocky soil and a rough climate, made it hard to farm so they made their legacy by building industries.
The North's coastline has bays and harbors which accommodated the fisherman and shipbuilders. Since farming was so hard they turned to trading and making and selling crafts. The South's coastline has swamps and marshes which contributed to growing rice and sugarcane and to fishing. The Southern towns followed the rivers inland.
